Hounds Fall Short at Lynn, 58-56

Boca Raton, Fla. (November 17) – The Assumption College men's basketball team made a late run in the second half at Lynn University before coming up just short by a 58-56 final on Sunday afternoon in non-conference play at the de Hoernle Sports and Cultural Center. The Hounds led by double digits in the opening period before the Fighting Knights took a 34-29 lead into the halftime break.

In the opening half, Assumption took control early on and led by a 10-point margin at 21-11 with eight minutes left following a three from senior Emiliano Void (Montreal, Quebec/Lockeport Regional). The Fighting Knights used a 14-5 run to pull with one at 26-25 with three minutes left and eventually took the lead on a three from Kaleb Cyburn with 2:40 on the clock. Overall, Lynn took a 34-29 lead into the halftime break as neither team shot over 40 percent from the field in the period.

In the second, Lynn stretched the lead out to 10 at 50-40 following a jumper from Fred Landers before the Hounds chipped away and stayed within striking distance. A 6-0 run pulled Assumption to within four and with 1:01 left, the visitors trailed by just two points following a layup from junior captain Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech). A free throw from Bobb-Jones with 38 seconds left in the game got Assumption within one before a Clyburn free throw made it a 58-56 game with just five seconds left.

Assumption had one last chance with 1.3 seconds left after a timeout but a potential game-winning three-pointer was off as the Hounds fell by a two-point margin in South Florida.

Bobb-Jones led the team with 20 points and eight rebounds, while junior captain Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) posted 15 points as the other Hound in double figures. Aaron Harrison had 17 points for the Fighting Knights, along with 13 points Landers in the win.

With the loss, Assumption falls to 1-3 on the season, while Lynn improves to 2-0 overall.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, November 20th as the Hounds open league play with a 7:30 p.m. start at Bentley University in Waltham, Mass.
