Colchester, Vt. (November 26) -- On a snowy Tuesday night, the Assumption College men's basketball team came up short in a 70-55 loss at Saint Michael's in a Northeast-10 Conference contest at the Ross Sports Center.

Assumption jumped out to an early 12-7 lead behind a pair of threes from sophomore Chris Fitzgerald (Somerset, Mass./Somerset) over the opening four minutes of play. Assumption extended the lead to 17-11 after a jumper from sophomore Tim Kasper (Cologne, Germany/Gymnasium Schloss Hagerhof) before a 10-2 Purple Knight put the hosts in front 21-19 with 10:12 left in the opening half.

The game was a single-possession game for the last 10 minutes of the period and appeared to be headed into the half at 32-31 in favor of Saint Michael's. Junior captain Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) was fouled however with 0.4 seconds left and hit the second of two free throws to tie the game at 32-32 after 20 minutes.

Saint Michael's came out of the gate on a 5-0 run over the first 3:13 of the second, capped by a three from Corey Crawford, for the 37-32 lead. The Purple Knights extended the lead to double figures at 46-35 with under 11 minutes left, en route to the 15-point victory over the Hounds. Assumption cut the lead to seven with 6:20 left, but that was as close as the visitors would get.

Zenevitch led the Hounds with a 21-point effort, while freshman Marcus Murray (Silver Spring, Md./John F. Kennedy) finished with 12 points. Senior Emiliano Void (Montreal, Quebec/Lockeport Regional) led the Hounds with 13 rebounds as he made his first career start.

Crawford paced three Purple Knights in double figures with a 26-point outing.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Michael's improves to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Sunday, December 1st as the Hounds host Franklin Pierce University for a 3:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
