Pleasantville, N.Y. (February 23) -- After a slow start to the game, Assumption took a three-point lead into the half and pulled away in the second period for a 66-54 win at Pace University on Saturday afternoon. Assumption is receiving votes in the NABC/Division II National Poll and is currently ranked No. 3 in the NCAA East Region Poll, released earlier this week.

The Hounds jumped out to a 13-10 lead midway thru the first half following a three-pointer from senior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown). Assumption extended the lead up to 17-10 before a layup by Salvatore Vitello broke a scoreless streak of 5:22 for Pace. The Hounds continued to lead until the final minute when a three-point play from Pace senior Keon Williams tied the game at 22-22 with 1:06 left. Assumption used five late points from sophomore Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) to eventually take a 27-24 lead into halftime despite nine turnovers in the period. The Hounds held a 20-10 edge on the boards in the opening period behind a game-high 10 rebounds from senior Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross).

Assumption began the second half on a three from the corner by Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) and stretched the lead into double digits at 38-28 following a layup from senior Ronson Quick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) with 16:20 left.

The Hounds extended the lead out to 13 at 45-32 following a deep three from Donahue, forcing a Pace timeout with 12:23 remaining.

The Setters cut the lead to 10 at 47-37 before Assumption kept up the pressure and eventually took control. Donahue helped the Hounds pull away with a four-point play with 7:13 remaining to make it a 56-39 margin, en route to the 12-point win.

Sophomore Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle Voc-Tech) posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with a team-high 20 points from Donahue, 13 from Quick and a game-high 13 rebounds from Beinert.

Jonathan Merceus led three Setters in double figures with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double.

With the win, Assumption runs its win streak to three straight and is now 19-6 overall and 16-5 in Northeast-10 play. Pace drops to 9-16 overall and 6-15 in the league with the defeat.

Assumption closes out the regular season on Tuesday, February 26th as the Hounds host American International for a 7:30 p.m. start on Senior Night. The five Assumption College seniors will be recognized prior to the game in a brief ceremony.
