Hounds Advance With 73-65 Win at SNHU

Manchester, N.H. (March 16) -- Led by four players in double figures, the No. 3 seeded Assumption College men's basketball team defeated No. 6 seeded Southern New Hampshire by a 73-65 final on Saturday afternoon at the SNHU Fieldhouse. The Hounds advance to the regional semifinals and will take on No. 7 Bridgeport on Sunday evening beginning at 5 p.m.

The Penmen jumped out to an early 15-11 lead over the first eight minutes, capped by a putback basket from Aleksander Dobrovic. Assumption came roaring back to take a 17-15 lead on a three from Kevin Donahue (Pawcatuck, Conn./Stonington) before the Penmen tied things up at 17-17 on a pair of Dobrovic free throws moments later. An 11-0 run for the Hounds pushed the lead into double figures for the first time at 28-17 as four different players scored during the run. Assumption led by as many as 14 in the period at 34-20 following a thunderous dunk by sophomore Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech). The Hounds held at least a 10-point lead over the remainder of the half before taking a 39-28 advantage into the halftime break.

Southern New Hampshire cut the lead to single digits early in the second half and made it a 43-38 game with 15:31 left following a triple from Dobrovic. Assumption eventually made it a double-digit edge again at 55-44 following a backdoor layup from senior Ryan Rozsnaki (Montreal, Quebec/Landstown) with 11:33 remaining. The Hounds continued to hold a 10-point lead with 5:59 left before Southern New Hampshire answered with a 6-0 outburst to cut the lead to 62-58 with 4:17 left. Five quick points for Assumption, including a pair of Bobb-Jones layups, made it a nine-point game with under a minute remaining as the Hounds pulled out the eight-point win.

Senior Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross) led the Hounds with 18 points, along with 12 points from Donahue. Freshman Tim Kasper (Cologne, Germany/Gymnasium Schloss Hagerhof) posted 10 points, along with a 12-point, 17-rebound double-double from Bobb-Jones. The 17 rebounds, including 11 defensive boards, marked a career high for Bobb-Jones.

C.J. Marriro led all scorers with 22 points for Southern New Hampshire, including a perfect 10-for-10 at the free throw line. Dobrovic posted 17 points, along with 15 from Mike Stys.

Assumption improves to 21-7 overall with the win, while Southern New Hampshire ends its season at 19-10.
