Worcester, Mass. (October 3) -- The Assumption College men's tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Clark on Friday evening on the road. Sophomore Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) and classmate Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional) both went undefeated on the day to lead the Hounds to the win.
The Greyhounds began competition by sweeping the doubles matches, 3-0.
Assumption took the No. 2 doubles by the largest margin with freshman Christian Zuber (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Saint Ignatius) and sophomore Marco Leung (Macao / The International School of Macao) claiming an 8-4 win over Clark's Fernando Pinoargote and Spencer Pinkney.
In the No. 1 doubles, Waung and junior Viljami Rahnasto (Vantaa, Finland / Eiran lukio) earned an 8-5 victory while Knight and sophomore Jakob Zylak (Dunbarton, N.H. / Coe-Brown Northwood Academy) pushed the No. 3 doubles match to a tiebreaker, earning the win 9-7.
In the singles matches, Waung earned the No. 1 singles win 6-3, 6-1 while Leung took the No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-0. Assumption's final win came in the No. 6 singles match in which Knight dropped the first set 6-4 before coming back to take sets two and three 6-4 and 10-5, respectively.
With the win, the Greyhounds improve to 1-1 overall and remain 0-0 in the NE-10. Assumption returns to action on Tuesday, March 3, when they travel to Armstrong State for another non-conference match-up. Competition is set to begin at 2 p.m.
