Manchester, N.H. (November 22) -- On Saturday afternoon at Stoutenburgh Gym, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped a 92-75 final to No. 21 ranked Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Haddam Senior College) tied the game at 8-8 on a layup with 15:57 left in the opening half before an 8-2 Saint Anselm run, capped by a Chris Santo free throw, put the Hawks up six at 16-10. Assumption eventually took the lead at 21-20 with 7:10 remaining in the half on a jumper by junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech).

The Hounds trailed by two at 25-23 with 5:46 left in the opening period, followed by a 14-8 Saint Anselm run to close the half as the Hawks took the 39-31 lead into the break.

Saint Anselm pushed the lead into double figures at 44-33 in the opening minutes of the second half after five straight points by senior Roy Mabrey. The Hawks led by a 64-49 margin midway thru the half and grew the lead to as many as 22 with 5:27 left after a pair of free throws by Taylor Fortin.

For the game, Assumption shot 53.3 percent from the field and turned the ball over just 11 times. Saint Anselm shot 43.1 percent from the field, but knocked down seven three-pointers and outscored Assumption 29-9 at the free throw line as the Hawks got to the free throw line twice as many times as the Hounds.

Assumption tallied 52 of its points in the paint and outscored the Hawks by a 13-11 margin from the bench.

Sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) led Assumption with a 25-point, 10-rebound double-double as he connected on 12-of-21 shots from the field. Sophomore guard Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C./John F. Kennedy) finished in double figures as well with a 16-point effort on 7-for-14 shooting from the field.

Mabrey led three Hawks in double figures with a game-high 37 points that included a 15-for-15 showing at the free throw line. Santo added 20 points and a team-high seven rebounds, along with 12 points out of forward Mike McCahey.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast-10, while Saint Anselm improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Tuesday, November 25th as the Hounds host Saint Michael's College for a 7:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
