Worcester, Mass. (November 25) -- On Tuesday night at Laska Gym, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped a 59-55 overtime final to visiting Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Hounds led for most of the game before forcing overtime on a pair of free throws by sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) with 1:51 left in regulation.

Assumption led from the outset at 5-0 after an opening layup from senior captain Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) and a three from Bey. The lead swelled to 19-13 midway thru the half on a three from the right wing by Bey and to as many as nine at 26-17 with 8:37 on the clock.

The Hounds led 30-24 before a quick SMC 5-0 run, capped by a jumper from Corey Crawford II, closed the margin to just one at 30-29 with 4:03 left in the first half. Assumption held the one-point lead again at 32-31 before a free throw by Bey and a jumper from sophomore Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C./John F. Kennedy) sent the game into the halftime break at 35-31 in favor of the Hounds.

Bey paced Assumption in the opening 20 minutes with nine points, along with eight points and seven rebounds from Bobb-Jones as he played all 20 minutes. Dom Ditlefsen led all scorers with 10 points for the Purple Knights, knocking down 3-for-4 from the field.

Assumption shot a blistering 60 percent from the field in the half and held an 18-10 advantage on the glass.

In the opening 10 minutes of the second half, the Hounds maintained a lead and stretched it back out to seven at 47-40 with 10:15 remaining after a three from the left corner by junior Julian Aiken (Randolph, N.J./Randolph). The Purple Knights cut the lead down to 49-46 with 7:55 on the clock on a three by senior Mike Holton, Jr., but junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech) found Bey for a hoop with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Saint Michael's eventually tied the game with 3:25 left on a three from the right wing by Ditlefsen and took its first lead on a putback hoop from Holton, Jr. for the 53-51 edge with 2:48 left. After a Hounds timeout with 2:34 remaining, Bey was fouled on a jumper as the shot clock was expiring and hit a pair of free throws to tie the game again at 53-53. Both teams had chances in the final moments before the game headed into the extra period for Assumption's first overtime game of the season.

In overtime, the teams traded baskets over the first two minutes before Saint Michael's went in front for good on a putback by James Cambronne with 56 seconds left at 57-55. Cambronne sealed the game moments later with a pair of free throws on a one-on-one opportunity as the Purple Knights finished the game 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Bey led the Hounds with a 17-point effort, along with 11 points and a game-high 16 rebounds by Bobb-Jones for the double-double. Bobb-Jones also added five assists, four steals and three blocks while shooting 5-for-11 from the field.

Ditlefsen led the Purple Knights with a 13-point effort, along with 11 points by Crawford II and 10 points each from Holton, Jr. and Cambronne.

Cambronne led the Purple Knights with eight rebounds, while Assumption held an overall 41-33 advantage on the boards.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Northeast-10 play, while Saint Michael's improves to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Wednesday, December 3rd as the Hounds host Stonehill College for a 7:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
