Hilton Head, S.C. (March 11) -- On Tuesday afternoon, the Assumption College men's tennis team blanked Eastern Nazarene by a 9-0 final on day two of the 2014 Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
In singles play, sophomore Viljami Rahnasto (Vantaa, Finland) and freshman Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass./Minnechaug) both won by 6-0, 6-0 margins. Graduate student Michael Breen (Holden, Mass./Saint John's) won the longest match of the day as he overcame a one-set deficit to win 3-6, 6-3, 11-9 as the Hounds completed the singles sweep.
The Hounds had dropped a narrow 5-4 final to regionally-ranked West Liberty on Monday afternoon in the team's first match of the event. The Hilltoppers are currently ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region rankings.
With the victory, Assumption improves to 2-4 overall on the season, while Eastern Nazarene is now 2-2 overall.
Assumption is back in action on Wednesday afternoon as the Hounds take on Emory & Henry for a 3:30 p.m. start in Hilton Head.
