Worcester, Mass. (September 11) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team (0-3) was topped by Holy Cross (1-0) by a score of 4-3 on Thursday afternoon. The Hounds earned two doubles wins and two singles wins in the match.

In a Division I-style match, Assumption kicked off the scoring, earning the first point for besting the Crusaders in two out of three doubles matches on the day.

In the No. 2 doubles match, junior Marie Black (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) and sophomore Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) claimed an 8-4 win over Holy Cross' Abby Henry and Katherine Elia. Junior captain Cassy Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) along with classmate Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) won the No. 3 doubles match 8-4 over Cassy Deng and Addie Devine.  

Freshman Aida Vila (Girona, Spain / La Salle Girona) and sophomore Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) fell in the No. 1 doubles match 8-3.

In the singles matches, freshman Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Lovejoy each claimed wins. Holland swept the No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-2 while Lovejoy posted another 6-0, 6-2 sweep in the No. 6 singles match.

In the No. 4 singles match, Carbone took the first set 6-3 before dropping the final two 6-3, 7-5. 

The Hounds host their second Northeast-10 Conference match of the season Sunday, Sept. 14 at Wachusett Regional High School at 11 a.m.
