Holden, Mass. (September 14) -- The Assumption College women's tennis team fell on Sunday to Adelphi at Wachusett Regional High School by a score of 7-2. The Hounds are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Wachusett Regional High School to face Bentley at 3 p.m.
In their second Northeast-10 Conference match-up of the season, the Hounds were defeated by the Panthers in two out of three doubles matches including a close 8-6 battle between freshmen Aida Vila (Girona, Spain / La Salle Girona) and Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas). Adelphi forfeited the third doubles match.
Sophomore Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) and freshman Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) also competed for Assumption in doubles competition finishing with a score of 2-8.
The Panthers forfeited the No. 6 singles match Sunday, giving Assumption one of two points on the day however, Holland led the Hounds in singles play pushing a three-set match against Adelphi's Joanna Haich. Holland dropped the first set 5-7 before coming back to take the second 6-4. Haich eventually claimed the win on a 10-8 final set.
The Hounds are set to return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at Wachusett Regional High School when they host Bentley for their third NE-10 match-up of the season at 3 p.m.
