THE BASICS:

-Location: Easton, Mass. (Charles Watt Tennis Courts)
-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team fell to Stonehill College on Saturday by a score of 6-3 in Easton, Mass. Stonehill and Assumption have been close in the NE-10 standings all season. Prior to Saturday's match, the Skyhawks were in second while the Hounds were close behind in fourth.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Sophomore Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and junior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) pulled off a close 8-6 victory against Stonehill's Bailey Paradiso and Kirsti Toegemann at No. 1 doubles. The duo picked up the only doubles match of the day for the Hounds.
-Burbine kept the momentum going in her match at No. 1 singles against Paradiso. The sophomore let up just up one point, claiming the victory with a near perfect score of 6-0, 6-1.
-Senior Cassy Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) picked up the final match for Assumption at No. 6 singles over Stonehill's Caitlin McKinney. Waung claimed the extremely close first set, 7-6 with a 7-5 tiebreaker but rallied to shut out McKinney in the second, 6-0, for the win.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-Burbine was the only Hound to go 2-0 against Stonehill picking up her doubles and singles matches, improving her NE-10 record to 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
-Senior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) lost her first singles match in NE-10 play on Saturday. She entered the match against Stonehill 6-0 in the league this season in singles play.
-Waung's impressive victory at No. 6 singles continues her undefeated streak in dual-match competition with a record of 6-0.
UP NEXT:
-The Hounds travel to Southern New Hampshire on Monday, Oct. 12, for a Northeast-10 Conference match starting at 12 p.m. The Penmen are currently tied for second with Stonehill in the NE-10 standings.
