THE BASICS:

-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team defeated Saint Michael's by a score of 6-3 on Sunday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match up at home. The match marks the second of three in a three-day period as the Hounds travel to Franklin Pierce on Monday to cap off back-to-back competitions.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Sophomore Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and junior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles against Erica Bundrick and Alexandra Sulkin.
- Junior Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) and senior Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regional) teamed up at No. 3 doubles to claim an 8-3 win over Saint Michael's Riley Kruger and Elizabeth Edwards, helping to lead the Hounds into singles play with a 2-1 advantage.
-Riley continued the momentum in her No. 2 singles match defeating Sulkin by a score of 6-4, 6-4.
-Freshman Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) faced Amelia Weeks at No. 4 singles where she picked up a point for the Hounds, winning the match by a score of 6-2, 6-1.
-Lovejoy and classmate Cassy Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) picked up the last two matches for the Hounds with a pair of two-set victories. Lovejoy defeated Kruger by a score of 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Waung claimed a win over Melissa Collins at No. 6 by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-Lovejoy was the only Hound to go 2-0 at singles play this weekend, remaining undefeated in NE-10 competition, 4-0.
-The Greyhounds continue their undefeated stretch on their brand new tennis courts with a home record of 5-0, four of which were against NE-10 opponents. The victories have contributed to the Hounds' impressive 6-1 league record.
-Assumption is currently tied for second in the NE-10 with a 6-1 conference record, behind 9-0 Adelphi. The Hounds are tied with Stonehill, which they will face on the road on Saturday, Oct. 10.
-The Hounds have just five matches left before the NE-10 Championships begin on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Last season, the Hounds entered the tournament as the sixth seed with a 7-7 record and fell to third-seeded Stonehill on the road in the first round.
