THE BASICS:
- Score: Assumption 86, Georgian Court 79

- The Lead: In the 2015-2016 season opener, the Assumption College men's basketball team knocked down 13 three-pointers and forced 18 turnovers as the Hounds defeated Georgian Court by an 86-79 final on day one of the Stonehill Tip-Off Classic. The win is the first at Assumption for first-year head coach Michael Harding.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption used the long ball in the first half to build a 43-25 halftime advantage behind eight three-pointers over the first 20 minutes.
- The lead in the first period reached as high as 19 points with 1:46 remaining in the stanza, en route to the 18-point spread at the break.
- Senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota) knocked down two free throws with 16:53 on the clock for Assumption's largest lead of the game at 54-31 before Georgian Court answered with a scoring run to make it an eight-point game at 73-65 with just under six minutes remaining.
- The Hounds built the lead back to double digits and still held an 81-71 edge with 3:03 left before knocking down five free throws in the final moments to preserve the win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Hallam Senior College) led the Hounds with a 20-point effort as he was a tremendous 11-for-12 at the free throw line. As a team, Assumption outscored Georgian Court by a 27-17 margin at the charity stripe.
- Overall, four Hounds finished in double figures in scoring as the team shot 42.6 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the free throw line.
- Assumption was outrebounded by a 38-29 margin for the game, including a 10-6 edge on the offensive glass for the Chargers.
