THE BASICS:

- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College men's basketball team got back in the win column as the Hounds defeated Saint Michael's College by a high-scoring 90-80 final at the Ross Sports Center.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Hallam Senior College) paced the Hounds with 15 points and five assists to go along with 15 points from sophomore Mat Sulda (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy). Freshman Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va./Christ Chapel Academy) also performed on Saturday as he registered a season-best 10 points in 21 minutes of playing time.

- Overall for the Hounds, five players finished in double figures in the victory. For Saint Michael's, Matt Bonds posted a 25-point, 11-rebound double-double as Levi Holmes III added 19 points and six rebounds and Greg  Grippo picked up 16 points on the day.

- The Hounds held a 51-30 scoring edge from three-point land and outscored the Purple Knights 23-16 at the free throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption led from the outset, but the game was close until a Hounds scoring run made it 28-13 with 5:32 left in the first following a three from senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota). The lead grew to as many as 20 at 40-20 with 2:56 on the clock following three free throws by Sulda before the game headed to the break at 45-26.

- In the second half, the hosts put together a 16-6 scoring run that was capped by a jumper from Bonds to pull to within 55-44 with 13:13 left in the game.

- Assumption held a seemingly comfortable 69-50 lead at the midway points of the second period before a 20-2 scoring run, capped by a three from Grippo, pulled the Purple Knights to within a single point at 71-70 with 5:30 on the clock. A Tuckson three pushed the edge back to four points and the Hounds hit 11 free throws in the last four minutes to seal the 10-point victory.
