- The Lead: Led by a 24-point effort off the bench from junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park), the Assumption College men's basketball team improved to 4-2 overall with a 93-90 non-conference road win at Molloy College on Sunday afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Reid led five Hounds in double figures with his 24-point performance as he shot 9-for-13 from the field overall and was 4-for-5 from three-point land. Senior Julian Aiken (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) led the starters with 15 points, while junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Hallam Senior College) continued his solid play with a 14-point effort.
- Sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson) added 13 points, while junior Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) posted an 11-point effort.
- As a team, the Hounds shot 45.5 percent from the field and hit 12 three-pointers. Molloy also had five players in double figures as the team shot 54.7 percent from the field behind a 28-point effort from Charlie Marquardt. Assumption held a 36-28 rebounding margin that included an 11-5 edge on the offensive glass.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption trailed by a 48-41 margin at the halftime break before rallying for the eventual three-point win. The Lions opened up a double-digit advantage for the first time with 7:33 left in the opening period as a three from Marquardt made it a 33-23 margin.
- The Hounds continued to trail by 15 points with 2:01 left in the opening half before the visitors closed on an 8-0 run to send the game to break at 48-41.
- In the second period, Assumption pulled within two early in the half before the Lions extended the lead back out to a nine-point margin. The Hounds continued to battle and eventually regained the lead at 68-66 on a three from Bey with 11:05 remaining.
- Neither team led by more than three points over the next 10 minutes of play until a three from Reid with 35 seconds left in the game put Assumption up 89-84. Aiken knocked down four free throws in the final seconds of the contest to seal the victory for the visitors.
