- The Lead: In Northeast-10 action on Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped an 84-72 final to visiting Franklin Pierce University at Laska Gym.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption came out firing in the early moments and just 3:47 into the game, the Hounds held a 13-2 advantage following a jumper from junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Hallam Senior College). The Ravens answered with a 16-3 run over the next six minutes, capped by a three from Mike McDevitt, to tie the game at 18-18 midway thru the period.

- A dunk from Donte Gittens with 3:21 left pushed the lead to double digits at 36-26 and forced an Assumption timeout. Back-to-back threes from Marvilio Berroa and Tyler Iacuone extended the lead to 42-26 before the visitors took the 46-30 lead into the break.

- Senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota) led the Hounds with 12 points in the first half, while McDevitt had a team-high 12 points for the Ravens.

- Franklin Pierce led by a 20-point margin with 6:05 left in the game before the Hounds cut the lead down to 71-57 on a three from the left wing by sophomore Mat Sulda (Hatfield, Mass./Smith Academy). Assumption cut the lead to 81-69 with 2:15 on the clock after a three from junior Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) before the Ravens held off the Hounds for the 12-point victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Soukup led four Hounds in double figures with 15 points, along with 14 from Owens and 13 from Sullivan. Soukup led the Hounds with nine rebounds and seven assists, while junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) also finished in double figures as he added 12 points in 23 minutes.

- Franklin Pierce was led by a 24-point, eight-rebound effort off the bench from Matt Banton as four Ravens finished the game in double figures.

- Assumption held a 38-35 rebounding edge and outscored the Ravens 30-14 in the paint. The Franklin Pierce bench, led by the 24 points from Banton, outscored the Hounds by a 34-18 margin.
