Colchester, Vt. (February 18) – At the Ross Sports Center on Wednesday night, the Assumption College men's basketball team dropped a 75-66 road final to Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action. The win gives the Purple Knights a sweep of the regular-season series from the Hounds as both games were decided by single digits.

Assumption took an early 9-3 lead over the first 5:24 as a layup from senior Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) gave the Hounds the six-point edge. Saint Michael's answered though with a 12-0 run over the next 4:30, capped by a jumper from Colin Richey, to seize a 15-9 advantage at the 11:06 mark. The Hounds battled back and regained the with 5:21 remaining in the game to take a 22-20 edge on a three by junior Julian Aiken (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) before taking a one-point lead into the half. After Corey Crawford tied the game at 22 with just under five minutes left, the Hounds eventually took the lead into the break as junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech) scored on a layup with 45 seconds on the clock.

In the second, the Purple Knights and Hounds battled over the first nine minutes, including a seven-point Saint Michael's lead at 51-44 with 11:02 remaining after a Greg Grippo three-pointer. A Grippo three with 8:58 left put the Hounds down by double digits 58-48 before eventually coming back to just four at 66-62 with 2:37 left after a layup by Bobb-Jones. Six Purple Knight free throws sealed the win over the game's final minute though, en route to the nine-point win for the hosts.

Sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson Academy) led the Hounds with 15 points and seven rebounds, along with 13 points from junior Karl Ziegler (Annandale, Va./Annandale) and 12 from Zenevitch. Bobb-Jones nearly posted a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Mike Thompson led the hosts with 17 points, along with 16 points from Grippo off the bench as he knocked down four of the team's nine three-pointers. Matt Bonds also chipped in 10 as the Purple Knights held a 28-12 lead at the free throw line, but were outscored by Assumption in the paint by a 38-14 margin.

With the loss, Assumption drops to 8-16 overall and 5-14 in Northeast-10 play, while the Purple Knights improve to 16-8 overall and 12-7 in the league.

Assumption is back in action on Saturday, February 21st as the Hounds host Saint Anselm College for a 3:30 p.m. start at Laska Gym.
