Box Score

Worcester, Mass. (February 24) -- On Senior Night, the Assumption College men's basketball team ended its season with a 79-67 home loss to visiting Southern New Hampshire University at Laska Gym. Prior to the start of the game, the Hounds honored seniors Matt Bailey (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) and Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Mass./Central Catholic) for their contributions to the program during their Assumption careers.

The Penmen came out firing to start the game and seized a 12-0 lead just 2:16 in after four straight three-pointers from four different players. A pair of Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Del./Delcastle-Voc Tech) free throws got the Hounds on the board, but the Penmen kept up the offensive pressure. SNHU stretched the lead to 17 at 23-6 after a three from Aleksander Dobrovic and eventually led by a 40-20 margin 7:06 remaining after another Dobrovic three. Assumption closed to within 12 at 46-34 with 1:45 remaining following a jumper from sophomore Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) before the Penmen eventually took the 50-35 lead into the break.

For the half, the Penmen shot a blistering 55 percent from three as SNHU knocked down 11 triples in the period and shot 60 percent overall from the field. Rodney Sanders led SNHU with 13 first-half points, while Bobb-Jones paced the Hounds with 11.

In the second, the teams both started off slow before the Hounds cut the lead to single digits on a three from the top of the key by sophomore Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) with 13:49 left. The Hounds eventually made it a four-point game with 4:43 remaining on two free throws from junior Karl Ziegler (Annandale, Va./Annandale), but continued to trail by six at 69-63 with under two minutes left.

The Penmen went to the line 23 times in the second half alone, including eight times in the final 1:07, to pull away for the eventual 12-point final margin.

Bey led four Hounds in double figures, while Bobb-Jones added 15 points and nine rebounds. Zenevitch finished his final career game with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Ziegler added 10 points. As a team, the Hounds were 14-for-18 at the free throw line and outrebounded the Penmen by a 41-30 advantage.

Sanders paced four Penmen in double figures with 19 points, along with 12 points each from BJ Cardarelli and Devin Gilligan and 10 points from Dobrovic.

With the loss, Assumption closes the season at 8-18 overall and 5-16 in Northeast-10 play, while the Penmen improve to 20-6 overall and 17-4 in the league.
