-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team tallied another win in Thursday's match against American International in Springfield, Mass., extending the Greyhounds' win streak to four and remaining undefeated in the league. The 7-2 victory marks the longest win streak for the program in at least the last seven seasons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Senior Marie Black (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) and freshman Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) teamed up to take the No. 2 doubles match by a score of 8-3 over AIC's Eleanna Fulop and Whitney McKay.
-Benoit kept the momentum going in her No. 2 singles match, claiming a 6-3, 6-1 win against AIC's Isabela Daudt.
-Senior captain Cassy Waung (Bolton, Conn. /East Catholic) earned another point for Assumption with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles against Fulop.
-Assumption junior Santina Marinelli (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven) made her first appearance on the court for the Hounds this season. Marinelli took the win over AIC's McKay by a score of 6-3, 6-0.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-Assumption remains undefeated in the NE-10 with the Hounds' win over AIC.
-Black and Benoit's win at No. 2 doubles marks the third of the season for the pair.
-Benoit's singles win marks her first at No. 2 while Waung's win at No. 3 is the first time the senior has played at three singles this season.
-Thursday's win extends the Greyhounds' streak to four, marking the longest winning streak in at least seven years.
-Benoit, Waung and Marinelli each swept their competition in two sets on the day at No. 2, 3 and 4 singles, respectively.
