-The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team remains undefeated in the Northeast-10 Conference after Saturday's victory over Le Moyne in Worcester, Mass., extending the Greyhounds' win streak to five. The 6-3 victory marks the longest win streak for the program in recent history.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Senior Marie Black (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) and freshman Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) teamed up to take the No. 2 doubles match by a score of 8-6 over Le Moyne's Rithika Vajjiravelu and Christina Perry.
-Senior Cassy Waung (Bolton, Conn. /East Catholic) paired up with classmate Aubrey Lovejoy (Holden, Mass. / Wachusett Regiona) for No. 3 doubles. The duo defeated Autumn Hogan and Allison Jones, 8-6, picking up the final point in doubles play to lead the Hounds into singles play with a 2-1 lead.
-Sophomore Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) swept the No. 1 singles match by scores of 6-1, 6-4 over Le Moyne's Tiffany Dun.
-At No. 4 singles, Benoit kept the momentum going, claiming a close 7-5, 6-2 win against Perry.
-Sophomore Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) received another point for the Hounds by taking a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Jones at No. 5 singles.
-Lovejoy picked up the Hounds' winning point at No. 6 singles against Hogan. The senior earned a 6-3, 7-6 win to clinch the match for the Hounds.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
-Assumption remains undefeated in the NE-10 with the Hounds' win over Le Moyne.
-Benoit and Lovejoy were the only Hounds to post two victories on the day, both in doubles and singles play.
-Black and Benoit's win at No. 2 doubles marks the fourth of the season for the pair.
-Burbine's victory marks her first at singles play in NE-10 play this season.
-Saturday's win extends the Greyhounds' streak to five, marking the longest winning streak in at least seven years.
-Holland's win at No. 5 singles makes her still undefeated at singles in the NE-10, 3-0.
