THE BASICS:

- The Lead: On Tuesday night, the Assumption College men's basketball team fell to Southern Connecticut by a 96-76 final at in Northeast-10 Conference action at Moore Fieldhouse.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- The Hounds were led in the game by a 14-point effort from freshman Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va./Christ Chapel  Academy) as he earned the start, while senior Tre Owens (Rota, Spain/Rota) and junior Reilly Reid (Mississauga, Ontario/Lorne Park) each posted 13 points. Junior Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia/Hallam Senior College) also finished with 11 points, while Owens picked up a team-high nine rebounds.

- Southern Connecticut's Desmond Williams was outstanding with a 40-point, 14-rebound double-double to go along with 16 points from Mike Mallory and 10 from Isaiah McLeod.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the first half, Assumption held a 10-4 lead with 16:19 on the clock as Soukup hit a three, but the Owls answered with a 10-4 run of their own and the game was tied at 14-14 with 12:30 left in the first half. Tuckson gave the Hounds a 21-18 lead moments later, along with a hoop by sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Mass./Wilbraham & Monson) that gave the visitors the 23-18 edge with 9:38 left. Southern Connecticut closed the first half on a 32-7 run over the last 9:38 though as the Owls took a commanding 52-30 lead into the break.

- In the second, the Owls led by as many as 27 with 16:33 left on a layup from Mallory, en route to the eventual 20-point victory.

UP NEXT:

- Assumption is back in action on Saturday, January 30th as the Hounds travel to Adelphi University for a 3:30 p.m. start in Garden City, N.Y.
