- The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team got back on track this afternoon against Gordon College, as the Hounds went on the road to claim a 7-2 non-conference victory over the Fighting Scots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption finished doubles play up 2-1 as Junior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and senior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) won for the sixth straight match at No. 1 doubles.
- Freshman Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) paired up with junior Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) for the first time this season, as the duo defeated Abby Caron and Gabby Brucker 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
- Riley won at No. 2 singles in three sets, while sophomore Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) defeated Kaelyn Hall 6-4, 6-1 out of the third flight.
- Freshman Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name), Latoni and senior Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) were each victorious at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- Burbine and Riley have now won six straight matches at No. 1 doubles, while Latoni and Holland teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles for the first time this season.
- Benoit and Latoni each improved to 11-2 in singles play for the season.
