THE BASICS:

The Lead: No. 3 seed Assumption jumped out to a 2-1 lead over sixth seed Adelphi in doubles action, but the Panthers came back to win four of the first five singles matches and earn the 5-3 upset victory in the NE-10 Quarterfinals on Wednesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds grabbed an early lead with some strong doubles play. No. 1 doubles fell 8-4, but at third doubles, the duo of Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and Maggie Holland (Newburyport, Mass. / St. Thomas Aquinas) came away with an 8-4 victory.
- In second flight double, Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) and senior Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) pulled out an 8-6 win to provide Assumption with a 2-1 lead.
- Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) fell at No. 1 and No. 2 singles and Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) came up short in the fourth flight to leave Adephi one match short of the victory.
- Carbone came through with a straight set victory at No. 6, 6-2, 6-0 to make it 4-3, but Benoit fell 6-3, 6-3 for the 5-3 final.
- Latoni didn't finish her match at No. 5, but did win the first set 7-5 and was poised to take the second 5-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hounds fell in the NE-10 Quarterfinals for the second straight year, though it marked the first time since 2008-09 that they made consecutive appearances in the Tournament.
- Assumption concludes its season with a 12-3 record, the program's most victories since 1988 and tied for the second most in program history.
