-The Lead: The Assumption College men's tennis team improved to 3-3 in the Northeast-10 Conference on Tuesday with a 7-2 victory over Saint Michael's at the Paxton Tennis and Fitness Club. Four Hounds went undefeated on the day including junior Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic), sophomore Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet), junior Marco Leung (Macao / The International School of Macao) and freshman Reb Mariano (New London, Conn. / Saint Andrew's School).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-Assumption came out of doubles play with a 2-1 lead after Waung and Leung earned a commanding 8-1 win at No. 1 and Foster and Mariano won 8-3 at No. 2.
-The foursome kept it rolling in singles competition, all four earning straight-set victories.
-Waung claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles and Foster claimed the No. 2 match 6-1, 6-2.
-At No. 3 singles, Leung also won 6-2, 6-3 while Mariano nearly shut out Hayden Steward at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0.
-In addition to Waung, Foster, Leung and Mariano's victories, newly appointed co-captain Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional) also earned a victory at No. 6 singles. He nearly shut out Patrick Dietz in the match, 6-0, 6-1.
BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:
-After playing as a pair nearly all season last year, Tuesday's competition marks the first in which Leung and Waung have partnered at No. 1 doubles this season.
-Foster is now 9-1 overall at No. 2 singles this season, 5-1 in the NE-10.
-Both Knight and Foster are on a two-win streak in singles competition.
UP NEXT:
-The Hounds are set to return to action on Saturday, April 16 as they travel to Bentley to continue NE-10 competition. Assumption is currently ranked seventh in the NE-10 standings with just Bentley, Merrimack and Le Moyne left to play before the end of the regular season.
