THE BASICS:

-The Lead: In a tough battle at home on Saturday afternoon, the Assumption College men's tennis team earned a narrow 5-4 victory over Le Moyne to clinch a three-way tie for fifth place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings. The Hounds currently await final decision on the three-way tiebreaker to determine if they will earn their third trip to the playoffs in the last three seasons.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds took two of three doubles matches for a 2-1 advantage headed into singles play. Juniors Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) and Marco Leung (Macao / The International School of Macao) claimed an 8-6 victory at No. 1 while sophomore Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet) and freshman Reb Mariano (New London, Conn. / Saint Andrew's School) took the No. 2 match 8-3.
-The Hounds battled at singles taking three of the six spots. Waung claimed a quick win at No. 2, 6-2, 6-2 while Foster earned a swift 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2.
-Assumption's third singles victory came at No. 6 when junior Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional) topped Tyler Underwood 6-3, 6-3.
-The Hounds nearly earned a 6-3 overall victory on the day with the No. 4 match. Mariano won his first set 6-3 before dropping the second in a tiebreaker, 7-5. Le Moyne's Stephane Legris pulled out a close 6-4 win in the third set for the victory.
UP NEXT:
-Assumption finished the season winning three of its last five matches and concludes its regular season with the victory over Le Moyne. The Hounds currently wait for a decision regarding playoff standings.
