-The Lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team dropped its season opener to Southern New Hampshire University by a score of 9-0 this afternoon at the Assumption College tennis courts.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
-The Hounds fell in three-straight doubles matches to start the season, including a 9-8 (8-6) loss from freshmen Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) and classmate Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) at No. 3 doubles.
-Senior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) played No. 2 singles, falling in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
-Junior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) fell at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0, while sophomore Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) dropped straight sets paying out of the third flight, 6-3, 6-2.
-Monje and Latoni fell at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, dropping by scores of 6-2, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
