- The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team defeated the University of New Haven by a score of 9-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a Northeast-10 match up in West Haven, Conn. This is the Hounds' fifth straight win after dropping the season opener to Southern New Hampshire on September 11th.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) paired up with senior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) in No. 1 doubles against New Haven's Angela Mercurio and Caitlyn Burridge. The Hounds came out strong and took the match 8-2.
- Senior Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) and sophomore Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) teamed up to play No. 2 doubles against Sarah Burzin and Shelby Clyne. Carbone and Benoit claimed an 8-1 win over the competitive duo.
- Freshman Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Family) and classmate Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) paired up at No. 3 doubles, defeating Kristen McCormick and Nicole Calabrese by a score of 8-1.
- Burbine and Riley claimed victories in their respective fights, each winning by a score of 6-1, 6-0.
- Benoit kept the momentum going at No. 3 singles. The sophomore refused to let up a point, shutting out Burridge, 6-0, 6-0.
- Monje, Latoni and Carbone followed suit, each claiming victories in two sets at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption's win against the University of New Haven marks the Hounds' fifth straight win.
- The Hounds are one win away from matching their six match win streak from a season ago. The win streak was the longest in recent program history.
