- The lead: The Assumption College women's tennis team defeated LeMoyne College by a score of 6-3 to improve its program record win streak to seven. The Hounds move to 7-1 on the season and have not lost a match since their season opening contest against Southern New Hampshire University on September 11th.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and senior Hannah Riley (Ellington, Conn. / Ellington) played out of the first doubles and defeated LeMoyne's Tiffany Dun and Amica Benoit-Limosani by a score of 8-3.
- Freshmen Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) and Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) improved to 5-1 after beating Kim Driesen and Cameron Aiello 8-0.
- Sophomore Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) earned the first point for Assumption in singles, winning 7-5, 6-3 out of the third flight. Monje and Latoni then won at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, as they both outscored their opponent 6-0, 6-1 to seal up the Hounds win.
- Senior Kristen Carbone (Taunton, Mass. / Coyle-Cassidy) wrapped up the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cameron Aiello out of the sixth flight.
BEHIND THE NUMBERS:
- Latoni and Monje's win this afternoon gives the duo their fifth win out of No. 3 doubles where they currently stand at 5-1 overall.
- With the win Assumption remains in third place in the conference at 7-1, trailing Merrimack College and undefeated Stonehill College.
- Thursday's win extends the Greyhounds' streak to a program record seven games, moving past last year's six-game win streak.
