THE BASICS:

The Lead: Assumption trailed by 11 points at the half but closed the gap to four in the final two minutes before ultimately falling to Saint Rose 71-65 in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds fell behind 12-4 in the opening four minutes, before Karl Ziegler (Annandale, Va. / Annandale) ended the run with a jumper at 14:35. Five minutes later Assumption trailed 21-13 and the Hounds eventually trimmed it to five on a three form Patrick Fleming (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. / Iona Prep) with eight minutes left in the half. A 7-0 run extended the Saint Rose to 30-18 at 6:42 and led by as many as 15, before four points in the final minute from Nick Pasquale (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Worcester Academy) cut the deficit to 37-26 at the half.

- Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C. / John F. Kennedy) opened the second half with a pair of free throws to make it a nine-point game, and five minutes later Zielger connected on consecutive free throws to keep it at nine, 47-38, at 13:39. Saint Rose's lead didn't fall below nine until Austin Kearney (Monroeville, N.J. / Gloucester County Christian) made a hook shot with just six minutes left.

- At 5:00, Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia / Hallam Senior College) was fouled on a layup and made the ensuing free throw to trail just 60-56. Saint Rose responded with a 7-2 run to pull in front by nine, before a three from Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) closed the gap to 67-61 at the 2:04 mark.

- Assumption managed to pull within four, 69-55, on a layup by Damien Rance (Melbourne, Australia / Pope John XXIII) with 53 seconds left. The Hounds got a defensive stop, but Murray's three-point attempt was just short and the Hounds were forced to foul. Tyler Sayre made both shots for the six point lead and a last second three was off the mark by Tuckson.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption shot 44.1 percent from the floor but was 4 of 19 from downtown. Saint Rose, meanwhile was 7 of 14 from beyond the arc and converted on 48.2 percent of its field goal attempts.

- The Golden Knights had a 37-27 rebounding edge, but the Hounds committed just six turnovers and scored more points in the paint (28-26).

- Ziegler paced the offense with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Soukup posted 13 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Pasquale came off the bench to add eight points and five rebounds while Murray chipped in eight points and four assists.

- Sayre led Saint Rose with 20 points and three rebounds, while Jack Jones scored 15 points off the bench.
