THE BASICS:

The Lead: Assumption and Pace were knotted at 75 apiece with seven minutes left in regulation, but the Hounds ended the contest on a 17-10 run to come away with a crucial 92-85 conference victory on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Hounds jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the opening seven minutes, but Pace responded with a 14-2 run to pull in front 23-19 midway through the period. Damien Rance (Melbourne, Australia / Pope John XXIII) made it a one-point game with a triple at 9:21 but Assumption was unable to take the lead. The teams traded baskets over the final nine minutes of the half, with a late Setter jumper giving the home team a 45-41 lead at the half.

- In the first five minutes of the second, the Hounds pulled even, as a Karl Ziegler (Annandale, Va. / Annandale) three-point play tied the contest at 53 apiece with 15:53 left. Assumption took a two-point lead minutes later on a Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va. / Christ Chapel Academy) layup before Pace took back the lead. An 8-3 run by the Hounds midway through the half put them on top, 70-68.

- The Setters tied it up at 70 and then again at 75 with seven minutes remaining. The Hounds responded with the next eight points, capped off by jumper from Ziegler to make it 83-75 at 3:44. Pace did cut the lead to five twice in the final 80 seconds, but couldn't get any closer as Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C. / John F. Kennedy) went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to ice the game and provide the seven-point win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption outscored Pace 51-40 in the second half and shot an impressive 59.0 percent from the floor, including 8 of 15 from downtown. The Setters shot 60.7 percent and were 13 of 24 from beyond the arc but the Hounds made three times as many free throws (12-4).

- Assumption held a 26-23 rebounding edge and committed just eight turnovers with 20 assists.

- Murray had his second straight 20-point game, with 26 points, three rebounds and two assists while Ziegler had 21 points and three assists while shooting 10 of 16 overall.

- Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia / Hallam Senior College) was in double figures with 11 points, three rebounds and two assists while Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) added 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.

- Christian White led Pace with 20 points, six assists and four rebounds, while Vinny Dalessandro chipped in with 19.
