- The lead: Freshman Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) and sophomore Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) went 2-0 to lead the Hounds to a 5-4 victory over Saint Anselm on Saturday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds took a 2-1 advantage in doubles play. Chappell and senior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) paired to win No. 1 doubles 8-3 while Latoni and Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) did not let up a point winning 8-0 in No. 3 doubles. In a tie breaker Tess Malerbi and Meghan Golden defeated Maria Monje (Worcester, Mass. / Holy Name) Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) 9-8.
- Assumption won singles play 4-2 to lead them to a 6-3 victory. At No. 1 singles Jess Perkins defeated Burbine 6-0, 6-0 while Chappell defeated Malerbi 6-0, 6-3. At No. 3 singles Benoit fell 6-1 and then dropped the tie breaker set 7-6. Sanchez rebounded with a 6-1, 6-2 win to go 1-1 on the day.
- In No. 5 singles, Latoni picked up her second win of the day to beat Lexi Stathis 6-0, 6-0, while Veronica Op (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) also won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
