THE BASICS:

The Lead: Assumption shot over 61 from the floor and received a dominant performance from freshman forward Malik Brown (Waldorf, Md. / Northpoint) to outlast Saint Michael's for an impressive 98-88 victory Saturday on the road.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Saint Michael's came out hot and led 19-11 nine minutes into the contest. Trailing 24-16, Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) connected on a jumper and Brown followed with a layup to pull the Hounds within four. Assumption finally tied the game at 30 apiece on a Justin Tuckson (Stafford, Va. / Christ Chapel Academy) triple at 4:36.

- The Purple Knights countered with a 7-2 run for a 37-32 advantage, but the Hounds ended the half on a 12-2 run, capped off by a Nick Pasquale (Shrewsbury, Mass. / Worcester Academy) basket for a 44-39 lead at the break.  

- Brown led off the second half with a layup to start a 12-3 run, which extended the Assumption lead to 56-42 just 2:14 into the period. St. Michael's pulled back within 11, before another Hound run stretched the lead to 20, 82-62 on a jumper by Tuckson.

- Assumption led 91-73 on a Vujadinovic basket with 3:45 left before a late Purple Knights run. It was too little too late and Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia / Hallam Senior College) sealed the game with two free throws in the final minute to secure the 98-88 win.

NSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption shot 61.0 percent from the floor and connected on 9 of 16 shots from downtown while going 17-for-20 from the free throw line. Saint Michael's made 53.1 percent of its shots and was 7 for-15 from beyond the arc.

- The Purple Knights held a slight 29-25 rebounding edge, but Assumption only turned the ball over 10 times and received 44 points from its bench to come away with the victory.

- Brown smashed his previous career-high of seven by shooting 9 of 12 from the floor to finish with 21 points, 12 rebounds and one assist. Tuckson added 15 points off the bench while Vujadinovic chipped in 14 points.

- Damien Rance had a strong game with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists while Patrick Fleming (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. / Iona Prep) supplied 10 points, five assists and four rebounds.

- Matt Bonds led St. Michael's with 26 points and five rebounds.
