The Lead: Assumption trailed by just four points with five minutes left the first half, but Saint Anselm went on a run to lead by 14 at the half and extended its lead in the final 20 minutes to come away with an 81-61 victory on Tuesday evening in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Assumption led 6-5 five minutes into the contest and then 11-10 at 13:28 on a Declan Soukup (Melbourne, Australia / Hallam Senior College) layup. St. Anselm responded with a 10-4 run to lead 20-15 with nine minutes left in the half.

- At 5:27, Patrick Fleming (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. / Iona Prep) made a jumper to trim the Hound deficit to just 25-21. The Hawks answered immediately with five straight points, which was part of an overall 10-0 run to push their lead to 35-21 with two minutes remaining. Soukup ended the drought with a free throw, but Assumption went into the half down 38-24.

- St. Anselm outscored Assumption 18-14 over the first six minutes of the second to extend its lead to 56-38, before going on an 8-2 spurt to lead 64-40 midway through the period. The Hounds cut the deficit to 18 points with back-to-back triples but weren't able to get any closer over the final nine minutes as they fell 81-61.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption shot 37.9 percent overall and was 8 of 21 from downtown, while the Hawks shot 47.7 percent overall and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc. St. Anselm also held a 50-30 edge on the boards.

- Fleming led the Hounds with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals, and Soukup added 11 points, two rebounds and two assists. Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) chipped in ten points and three rebounds.

- Tim Guers led St. Anselm with 20 points and 18 rebounds, while Taylor Fortin had 14 points six assists and four steals
