The Lead: Senior Marco Leung (Macao / The International School of Macao), junior Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet) and sophomore Danny Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) all went 2-0 to lead the Hounds to a 5-3 upset victory over No. 3 seed Adelphi to advance to the NE10 Semifinal for the first time since 2007.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption took a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Seniors Chris Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) and Leung faced Matteo Cannavera and Uladzislau Litvinchuk at No. 1 doubles and defeated them 8-4. At No. 2 doubles, D. Waung and Foster followed up with a 8-4 win over Roey Heymann and Sabin Adrian Savueluc. Seniors Casey Hodor (North Kingstown, R.I. / Bishop Hendricken) and Tom Knight (Wilbraham, Mass. / Minnechaug Regional) dropped No. 3 doubles 8-0 to head into singles play with a 2-1 advantage.
- The Hounds went 3-2 in singles play to claim the win. C. Waung fell 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles to Cannavera, along with Hodor who dropped No. 5 singles to David Robres 6-1, 6-0.
- Leung, Foster and D. Waung won all three of their singles matches in two sets. Foster defeated Litvinchuk at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-3 while Leung claimed a 6-1, 7-5 win over Heymann. D. Waung finished the match at No. 4 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Savueluc, which led the Hounds to the 5-3 victory.
