THE BASICS:
- Score: Assumption 5, Holy Cross 0
- Record: Assumption (2-0), Holy Cross (0-2)
- Location: Paxton, Mass. (Tennis & Fitness Center)
- The Lead: Assumption and Holy Cross were forced to take their match indoors due to weather concerns, but the Hounds still made quick work of the Crusaders as they earned a 5-0 sweep on Thursday afternoon to open the season 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Assumption dominated in doubles, sweeping all three matches, and were let by the No. 1 duo of senior Cassie Burbine (Londonderry, N.H. / Londonderry) and freshman Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central). They took down Allison Reiling and Morgan McGuire 8-2.
- At No. 2 doubles, junior Paige Benoit (Holden, Mass. / St. Peter Marian Central Catholic) and freshman Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) took care of the Crusaders 8-3, and in third flight doubles sophomore Camille Latoni (San Juan, P.R. / Academia Maria Reina) and Veronica Op (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) won 8-4.
- The Hounds needed just two singles wins to sweep the contest as both teams decided beforehand that the match would end once someone reached five. Chappell made quick work of Katya Martin at No. 2 singles, 8-1 in a pro set, while Burbine nearly matched her with an 8-3 victory at No. 1 singles to clinch the match.
