- The Lead: Assumption won five of six singles matches, including a pair in three sets, while sweeping all the doubles matches to earn a hard-fought 8-1 win over Wartburg on Tuesday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hounds took five of six singles matches, highlighted by a straight set 6-0, 6-0 sweep by Danny Waung (Bolton, Conn. / East Catholic) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Max Francis (West Barnstable, Mass. / Barnstable) took second flight singles 6-4, 6-2 while Reb Mariano (New London, Conn. / Saint Andrew's) also won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
- Senior Ryan Foster (Bloomfield, Conn. / Classical Magnet) came through with the solid victory at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 5-7, 10-4. Jameson Keppeler (Syracuse, N.Y. / CBA Syracuse) needed three sets as well, but ultimately secured a 6-3, 4-6, 10-8 victory. Freshman Luke Whitehouse (Hopkinton, Mass. / Hopkinton) took his match to three sets as he fell 2-6, 7-6, 3-6.
- In doubles action, the duo of Foster and Mariano earned a 9-8 victory at No. 1 with an 8-6 tiebreak. Keppeler and Whitehouse also won by a 9-8 (8-6) margin at third flight, while Waung and Francis breezed to an 8-3 victory for the sweep at No. 2.
