HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Hounds started the night with a sweep of doubles matches. Monje and junior Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Machester Central) defeated UNH sophomore Nicole Mika and junior Lila Rodriguez, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Latoni paired up with first year Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) at No. 2 doubles and outlasted freshman Kacie Banks and junior Stephanie Gonzalez, 7-6. Assumption junior Veronica Op (Westford, Mass. / Westford Academy) and sophomore Ana Escudero (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) rounded out the doubles victories with a 6-4 final over freshmen Alexa Orlando and Katherine MacPhail.

-The singles matches were the nail biters of the evening with two match-ups going into a third set. Chappell steadily handled Gonzalez at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2 for the first singles victory for the Hounds. Figgins was edged by Mika at No. 3 singles 6-2 and 6-3 as the Hounds held a 2-1 lead. Rodriguez and Monje battled it out at No. 2 singles. Rodriguez took the tie breaking points to clinch the 7-6, 6-4 victory and tie the match at 2-2. Banks held Latoni to three points in each set as she took the 6-3,6-3 victory for the Chargers to take a 3-2 match lead.

-Escudero was victorious at No. 5 singles as she went three sets with MacPhail. Escudero took the 6-3 victory in the first set, fell by the same margin in the second set, and fought to a 7-5 victory in the third to tie the match at 3-3.

-Orlando earned the win at the final singles match and lifted the Chargers to the final 4-3 victory after seven hours of play. Orlando took set one 7-5 before Op came back to defeat her with the same score in the second set. Orlando just barely snuck by Op as she took the final 7-6 victory in the third set.
