-The Lead: The Assumption College men's tennis team was edged by the Vikings of Berry College in their opening match of the 2020 season at the Spring Fest in Hilton Head, S.C.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption earned the doubles point as sophomore Michael Butkus (Worcester, Mass. / South High) and first year Brady Ryan (Lynn, Mass. / Saint Mary's) defeated Clay Jones and Connor Murphy, 8-4, and  senior Jameson Keppeler (Syracuse, N.Y. / CBA Syracuse) teamed up with Jacob Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I. / Mt. Saint Charles Acad.) to edge Murph Lutian and Ben Knight, 8-6.

-Ryan and Keppeler won singles matches for the Hounds. Brady defeated Jonas Frank, 6-4 and 6-1. Keppeler went three sets with Murphy, 6-4, 4-6, and 10-8. 

-Junior Max Francis (West Barnstable, Mass. / Barnstable) took Rory Glatt to a tie breaker, but ultimately fell by retirement in the hard-fought match-up.

UP NEXT

-The Hounds are back in action on Friday, March 13th when they take on Michigan Tech at the Spring Tennis Fest in Hilton Head, S.C. at 8:30 a.m.
