-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis dropped to the Chargers of the University of New Haven in Norheast-10 Conference action over the weekend. The Hounds earned two singles points, but ultimately fell to the Chargers, 5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Despite losing the doubles point, Assumption graduate student Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) and junior Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) defeated Karim Carreras and Lilia Rodriguez at No. 1 doubles, 6-3. The Chargers took victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinch the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
-Sophomore Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) earned Assumption a point at No. 3 singles, defeating Nicole Mika in two sets, 6-3 and 6-3. Junior Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) garnered Assumption's second point at No. 4 singles over Kacie Banks. She battled to set scores of 6-3 and 7-6.
-Chappell came up short in a close match at No. 1 singles with Carreras. Chappell took the first set 6-2, fell 6-0 in the second and 6-4 in the third.
-The Chargers earned victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 singles to claim the 5-2 final victory.
