THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption University Men's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Tuesday night with their first home game at Laska with an NE10 matchup with Franklin Pierce.  The Ravens led 54-45 at the half but the Hounds starting five all posted double digit points and powered their way to a victory in front of their home crowd. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Omar El Sheikh (Giza, EG / The Knox School) scored the first basket of the game as both teams trade baskets for the first seven minutes. 

-Franklin Pierce stretched their lead to as many as 14 in the first half led by junior point guard Isaiah Moore who put up 15 points in the first. 

-Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School) led the Hounds with 10 points in the first half and Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) was right behind White with nine points. 

-The Hounds came out of the locker room hot and took the lead five minutes into the second when Kelly hit a jumper following a steal from White. 

-Both sides traded baskets in a back and forth battle and were started to pull away with just around ten minutes left when Kani Glover (Brockton, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) hit a three on an assist from Njavan Stewart (Newton Upper Falls, Mass. / Newton South) to put Assumption ahead 74-71. 

-The Hounds led by as many as 15 in the second, paced by El Sheikh who put up 17 in the second and finished with 23 for the game with 13 rebounds and five assists, giving him his fourth double-double in four games. Junior Isaiah Gaiter (Meriden, Conn. / Huntington Prep) scored 13 points in the second and finished with 20 points on the night and Glover came off the bench for the Hounds and sunk three three pointers to put up nine points to lead the Hounds bench in scoring. 

-Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Tilton) put up three three pointers and finished with 11 points and Kelly scored 16 points with five assists to give all Hounds starters double digit points on their way to their first conference win on the year. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Assumption went 38-75 (50.7%) from the floor while Franklin Pierce was 32-61 (52.5%) on the night. 

-The Hounds outrebounded the Ravens 36-26.

-The Assumption bench outscored Franklin Pierce 17-12.
