THE BASICS

-Score: Bentley University 93, Assumption University 87

-Records: Assumption University (4-2, 1-2 NE10), Bentley University (4-1, 2-1 NE10) 

-Location: Waltham, Mass. (Dana Center)

-The Lead: The Assumption University men's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Wednesday evening with an NE10 matchup on the road vs Bentley. The game was a close contest all night with Bentley taking a 45-41 lead into the half. The Hounds chipped away all night and took the lead briefly with about five minutes left in the second but Bentley was able to pull away and hold the lead to close out the game. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first half was a back-and-forth contest with both teams trading buckets over the first ten minutes. Assumption was able to push their lead to as many as eight with ten minutes to go in the first thanks to a David Tiedemann (Westerly, R.I. / Westerly) layup, but Bentley's Mason Webb had the hot hand all night and drained two three pointers in a minute span to tie the game at 28 with nine minutes to go. After continuing to trade baskets for the rest of the half, Bentley hit a buzzer beater three to take a 45-41 lead going into halftime.

-Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) paced the Hounds in the first half with 14 points and while Mason Webb had 11 for the Falcons. 

-The Hounds tied the game around for a quick second until Bentley hit a three on their next possession and fought off the Assumption comeback attempt multiple times. The Falcons led 77-67 with around seven minutes to play making 10 their largest lead of the game. 

-Kani Glover (Brockton, Mass. / Bridgton Academy) made two three pointers in a row on assists from Kelly and then Kelly hit his own three to get the Hounds within a point. 

-Assumption took the lead briefly again with just under five minutes left to play when Isiah Gaiter made a layup to make it 80-79 Hounds but the Falcons responded and put up a quick six points. 

-Omar El Sheikh (Giza, EG. / The Knox School) scored the next two buckets for the Hounds getting them within one yet again but the Falcons pulled away for the last time and Webb who finished the game with 25 points, had four points in the final minute to create the 93-87 final.  

-El Sheikh finished the game with a double double, putting up 12 points and 12 rebounds. While Matthew Kelly finished with 28 points and seven assists. Jordan White finished with 14 points for the Hounds. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Assumption was 34-75(45.3%)  shooting on the night while Bentley went 36-70 (51.4%)

-The Hounds out rebounded the Falcons 39-38.

-The Hounds are back home on Saturday, December 4 with a NE10 matchup against Saint Michael's College. Tip-off is set for 3:30pm.
