-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team dropped in Northeast-10 Conference action on the road at the University of New Haven on Wednesday afternoon. The Hounds fall to 0-4 on the season while the Chargers improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the NE10.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Senior Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) and sophomore Cara McCormick (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) put up a tough fight at No. 1 doubles, but ultimately fell to New Haven graduate student Ivan Andric and senior Stephanie Gonzalez, 7-5.
-First year Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) teamed up with senior Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) and earned a victory for Assumption at No. 2 doubles, defeating junior Nicole Mika and sophomore Kacie Banks, 6-2.
-New Haven secured the doubles points at the No. 3 spot when senior Lilia Rodriguez and sophomore Alexa Orlando defeated Assumption first year Jessica Crosby (Westfield, Mass. / St. Mary's) and sophomore Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School), 6-1.
-Chappell fell to Andric at No. 1 singles, 0-6, 5-7
-Sze took Gonzalez three sets but ultimately fell at No. 2 singles, unfinished.
-Sanchez earned Assumption's lone point of the game at No. 5 singles. She defeated Rodriguez in two sets, 7-6, 6-0.
