-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team defeated the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The win lifted the Hounds to a 3-6 overall record heading into the playoffs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Seniors Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) and Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) teamed up for a victory at No. 1 singles over junior Emily Jacy and senior Maikah Bulpitt, 6-1.
-Sophomore Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) and first year Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) earned the doubles point with a 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles over senior Dominique Bolduc and sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis.
-First year Jessica Crosby (Westfield, Mass. / St. Mary's) and sophomore Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) finished out the doubles sweep with a 6-2 final over the Hawks', first year Elizabeth Janiak and junior Josie Hulbert.
-Chappell cruised to another victory at No. 1 singles. She shut out Jacy in the first set, 6-0 and earned a 6-2 victory in set two.
-Sze battled at No. 2 singles and defeated Kapothanasis in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4.
-Sanchez cruised to a 6-1 win in the first set of her match with Bulpitt at No. 3 singles. She outlasted Bulpitt, 6-3 in the second set for the final victory.
-McCormack earned a quick win over Bolduc at No. 4 singles, allowing just one point scored, 6-1 and 6-0.
-Figgins shut out Janiak at No. 5 singles, 6-0 and 6-0.
-Hulbert took Saint Anselm's lone point of the day over Crosby at No. 6 singles.
