-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team picked up their first NE10 victory of the season with a 5-2 final over Bentley on Wednesday. The match was a battle through doubles play with Assumption coming out on top and the Hounds took four-of-six singles matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Senior Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) and first year Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) partnered up at the No. 1 doubles sport and defeated junior Alessa Matuty and first year Adriana Hiraldo, 6-3.
-Sophomores Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) and Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) were a strong pair at No. 2 doubles, taking down sophomore Makena Romagnano and first year Anna Lang, 6-2.
-Bentley secured a win at No. 3 doubles as Assumption senior Valeria Sanchez (Carolina, P.R. / Colegio La Piedad) and first year Jessica Crosby (Westfield, Mass. / St. Mary's) battled to a 7-5 setback, but the Hounds secured the doubles point.
-Chappell cruised to a victory over Hiraldo at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1.
-Sze went three sets with Romagnano at No. 2 singles, and came out on top, 6-1, 5-7, and 7-5.
-Sanchez fell to Matuty at No. 3 singles as they also battled in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, and 9-11.
-McCormack snagged a win at No. 4 singles, handling Lang by scores of 6-1.
-Figgins took No. 5 singles over first year Remi LeSage, 6-4 and 6-2.
-Sophomore Zoe Chin earned Bentley their second singles point, defeating Crosby, 6-1 and 6-3.
