-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team defeated the Hawks of Saint Anselm College, 5-2, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Sunday afternoon. The Hounds improve to 2-1 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Sophomore Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) picked up the first singles win for Assumption at No. 3 singles. She defeated first year Julia Svor by set scores of 6-0 and 6-2.
-Sophomore Yana Semerly (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) defeated first year Bridget Hughes at No. 4 singles for Assumption's second singles victory of the day, 6-1, 6-1.
-Graduate student Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) earned a victory for the Hounds at No. 1 singles play with junior Anastasia Kapothanasis. She defeated Kapothanasis by set scores of 6-1.
-Junior Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) put Assumption ahead 4-1 with a win at No. 2 singles over Saint Anselm senior Emily Jacy, 6-1 and 6-1.
-First year Abigail Svor earned Saint Anselm's a victory at No. 5 singles over sophomore Alexis Connolly (Whitman, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson Regional). The two battled through three sets, 6-4, 0-6, and 5-10.
-Sze and Semerly earned the first doubles victory at No. 2 doubles. They defeated Kapothanasis and Olivia Parzick, 6-1.
-Chappell and McCormack teamed up at No. 1 doubles and took a 6-1 final over Jacy and Svor.
