-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team battled in a setback with Stonehill College at home on Saturday afternoon. The Hounds took three of the six singles points and were edged in doubles play in the final match-up as the Skyhawks took the final 4-3 Northeast-10 Conference victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Graduate student Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) battled her way to a victory at No. 1 singles, in three sets. She fell 6-3 in the opening set before clinching the second, 6-3 and third, 6-4.
-Junior Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) earned the Greyhounds a win at No. 5 singles with set scores of 6-2 and 6-1 over Stonehill first year, Marissa Such.
-Sophomore Alexis Connolly (Whitman, Mass. / Whitman-Hanson Regional) also picked up a win for the hosts at No. 6 singles. She downed Ayonna Stuppard in two sets, 6-4 and 6-2.
-Chappell and junior Cara McCormack (Worcester, Mass. / Doherty Memorial) teamed up at No. 1 doubles and earned the win in a retirement by a score of 4-2.
-Figgins and Connolly battled at No. 3 doubles, but were ultimately edged by the Skyhawk's duo of Lily Peter and Such, 7-5. The win clinched the doubles point and final victory for Stonehill.
