-The Lead: The Assumption University women's tennis team improved to an even 3-3 record this season with a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference victory at American International College on Wednesday evening. The Hounds won singles play over the Yellow Jackets, 4-2 and won all three doubles play matches to clinch the conference win in Springfield.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Graduate student Julia Chappell (Manchester, N.H. / Manchester Central) defeated Meritxell Jimeno-Vicente in two sets, 7-5 and 6-3.
-Sophomore Caitlin Sze (South Windsor, Conn. / South Windsor) earned the win at No. 3 singles for Assumption, cruising to 6-1 and 6-0 sets over AIC graduate student, Alexa Conlin.
-Sophomore Yana Semerly (Okemos, Mich. / Okemos) shut out Sophie Roberge in the first set, 6-0 and battled to the victory at No. 4 singles with a 7-5 final in set two.
-Junior Aimee Figgins (Milford, Mass. / Hopedale Jr./Sr. High School) did not let her opponent score a point at No. 5 singles, taking the 6-0, 6-0 victory for the Hounds.
-Assumption swept doubles play with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 7-5 to take home the final 5-2 conference victory.
