THE BASICS

-The Lead:  The Assumption University Men's basketball returned home to the Laska Gymnasium and continued their 2021-22 season with another thrilling conference win over NE10 opponent AIC. The Hounds were down by four at half and were able to tie the game with six minutes left and took the lead on their next possession and never looked back going on a 16-8 run to close out the game and secure a conference win

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The first half of the game saw AIC jump out to a 17 point lead, thanks to Carlos Hubbs shooting lights out from beyond the arc going 5-7 in the half and registering 15 points off the bench. 

-The Hounds kept it close with Isaiah Gaiter (Meirden, Conn / Huntington Prep) and Jordyn White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School) scoring 12 points each and chipping away at the deficit to put Assumption down by four at the half.

-Omar El Sheikh (Giza, Eg. / The Knox School) scored nine points in a span of eight minutes and Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) got hot in the second half and poured in 14 points in the second half, while Gaiter scored 11 more. 

-The Hounds tied the game with a little over six minutes left thanks to an El Sheikh layup, took the lead when Gaiter grabbed a defensive rebound, when coast to coast and laid it in to give the Hounds the lead. Assumption then got some breathing room thanks to a Kelly three pointer and never looked back. 

-AIC cut the Hounds lead to as little as four but the hosts made six straight free throws to ice the game and come away with the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

 -The Hounds were 31-57(54.4%) shooting on the day while the Yellow Jackets went 30-60 (50%)

-Assumption outrebounded AIC 32-25

-The Hounds are back in action on Wednesday, January 19 with a home contest versus Adelphi in a Northeast 10 conference battle. Tip off is set for 7:30pm.
