THE BASICS

-The Lead:  The Assumption University men's basketball team continued their 2021-22 season on Wednesday evening with conference matchup versus the Panthers of Adelphi. The visitors jumped out to an early lead, with the Hounds battling back through the first half but the Panthers went on a big run to close the first half, going into halftime up 34-20. Adelphi would lead by double digits for most of the second half and the shots would not fall for the Hounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-The Panthers quickly jumped out to an 11-0 lead over the first three minutes but the Hounds would fight back and get the score to 22-20 thanks to Cooper Creek (Merriden, AU / Williston Northampton Prep) scoring seven points off the bench. 

-The Panthers would then go on a 12-0 run over the final seven minutes of the half to go into the break up 34-20. 

-The Panthers would continue to score relentlessly going 5-10 from three in the second half and the Hounds couldn't find any answers. 

-Omar El Sheikh (Giza, EG/ The Knox School) registered another double double, with 10 points and 13 rebounds. 

-Ronnie Silva would lead the visitors with 19 points and Adonis Williams had a double double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-The Hounds would shoot 21-63 (33.3%) on the night while the Panthers went 25-53 (47.2%)

-Both teams had 38 rebounds.

-The Hounds are back in action on Saturday, January 22 with a road contest versus New Haven. Tip off is set for 3:30pm.
