Bruggeman Goes Deep Twice, as Softball Splits with Dominican

CLERMONT, Fla. – Mackenzie Bruggeman hit a pair of homeruns and drove in three as the Assumption University softball team split a doubleheader against Dominican University on Tuesday afternoon at "The Spring Game."

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME ONE - Dominican University (NY) 6, Assumption University 5 – 8 Innings
Mackenize Bruggeman got the scoring started in the top of the second as she hit a solo homerun in the frame. The Chargers responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the frame. The Greyhounds regained the lead in the top of the fifth as Jordan Dwyer scored on a Heather Junjulas sac fly to left field.
 
The back-and-forth affair would continue in the bottom half of the fifth, as Dominican plated a pair of runs on an Emily Angulo double to right field. Assumption answered in the sixth, as Jaiden Tonucci scored on a Kaitlyn Cahill sacrifice fly before Dwyer drove in a pair with a double to center.
 
Madison Walker hit a solo shot in the top of the sixth before Chloe McIntosh scored on a passed ball in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5.  The game would go into an extra inning, and Dominican would walk off in the bottom of the eight, as Emma Kaszovitz drove in Rebecca Haggerty with a single to left field.  
 
Kaelin Waldron went 6.0 innings with six strikeouts and three earned runs.
 
GAME TWO - Assumption University 6, Dominican University (NY) 2
Assumption was the first team to get on the board, as Dwyer scored on a Lauren Geremia sac fly to center. Dominican tied the game in the top of the second with Haylee Redmond Ridge's RBI single and would take the lead in the top of the fourth, as Ridge crossed the plate on a Nicole Mata double to left field.
 
The Greyhounds regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth, as Summer Sheerin doubled home Dwyer before scoring later in the frame on Bruggeman's second homerun of the day. Geremia capped off the scoring for Assumption as she drove in a pair with a single to left in the bottom of the sixth.
 
Kya Birtz got the start, going 2.0 innings with no earned runs. Anna Tassone got the win, as she tossed 3.1 innings on one hit softball.
